Chief Imam of Ilorin Dies at 75
The demise of the Chief Imam was confirmed on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the Chairman of the Islamic Missionaries Association (IMAN), Sheikh Abdullahi Nurudeen-Adana.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Nurudeen-Adana disclosed that Sheikh Bashir Solihu died after battling an undisclosed illness.

Sheikh Bashir Solihu was a highly influential Islamic cleric who rose through decades of Islamic scholarship, teaching, and religious service to become one of the most respected religious leaders in Kwara State.
He served as the 12th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, a position he assumed in 1983 and held for over four decades.

Muhammad Bashir Saliu Al-Fulani, OON (1950 – 19 January 2026) was an Islamic scholar and the 12th and present chief Imam of Ilorin. He is often referred to as Imam Fulani.He was appointed by the former emir of Ilorin, Zuluqarnain Muhammadu Gambari, following the death of Imam Musa Ahmad in 1983. His father, Imam Saliu Omo Onida Abdulkadir was the 7th chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.
