How To Get Admission Into Nigeria Universities

Many students who knows the procedures and requirements for admission, are getting admission effortlessly.

‎Some students don't even know that there are proper protocols or certain things required from them to grant them admission.

‎‎Below you will learn what and how you can be qualified for admission, Alternative ways students get admission, What to encounter in getting admission.

‎‎What Are Needed To Gain University Admission?

1. Obtain at least 5 credits in SSCE/GCE. English and Mathematics Included.

‎2. Register and sit for Jamb UTME

‎‎3. Post- UTME/ Screening

‎‎4. Monitor and Accept admission on Jamb caps.

‎1. Obtain At Least 5 Credits In SSCE/GCE. English and Mathematics compulsory:

‎‎Passing the secondary school certificate examination (SSCE) is a prerequisite to gaining admission. If you didn't do well in any subject, make sure your course of choice doesn't consider the subject,  E.g You got an "E" in chemistry and want to study Industrial chemistry, Such person will not be considered for admission.

‎‎2. Register And Sit For Jamb UTME:

‎‎The unified tertiary and matriculation examination ( UTME) is a standard examination that qualifies a student for university admission. If you have registered for Jamb, then congratulations, But it doesn't end there, Get yourself the Jamb syllabus ( check our previous posts) and study intensively. This examination Is what will determine your score. Know it that Jamb cut-off mark for courses differ, know the cut-off mark of the course you intend to study.

‎‎3. Post-UTME /Screening:

‎‎Post UTME is an examination hosted by the institution itself. This examination is to test the students knowledge and score is calculated with the Jamb score to get average.

‎‎Screening is the use of SSCE in the place of post-UTME. Students SSCE grades are used to calculate their post-UTME score and students don't have to sit for the examination. A typical example is "A"= 100, "B"= 70.  The average is used for admission.

‎‎Assuming a student got;

‎Jamb score: 250

‎Post UTME/ Screening : 220

‎Average : 250 + 220/2 =235.

‎4. Check Admission Status:

‎‎Checking admission status on your Jamb caps is another thing you need to do frequently to monitor when giving admission. Some students miss admissions because they were reluctant to check their caps and later on get to know about it when it must have been late. Don't forget to "Accept' your admission on your caps. Sometimes the University releases admission list and your name appearing in the list with your Jamb caps not changing, All you have to do is to wait but if it persists to change, you will have to visit the admission centre ( In the school).

‎If you were offered double admission, you saw your name in two different courses in the admission list, You will have to write a letter of double admission with the list where your name had  appeared, stating the course you choose between the two, Submit to admission centre.

‎‎3 Low Post-UTME result.

‎‎After post UTME or screening, if the average is poor for the course of choice the institution may not offer such admission or may give another course to the person.

‎‎4. Contradicting Or Wrong Data

‎Providing wrong data or different information in your various files will lead to automatic rejection. E.g Name on NIN is different from birth- certificate or SSCE result.Make sure your data is same.

‎‎5. Highly Competitive Course.
