Military Coup In Nigeria: Against His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), accused of plotting a coup against His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will face a military court-martial. The Special Investigative Panel, tasked with probing the officers, concluded that several personnel had cases to answer, including allegations of attempting to overthrow the government.

‎Major-General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, stated that the alleged actions of the officers contradict military regulations and violate the professional standards expected of Nigerian military personnel. “These measures are purely disciplinary and part of internal institutional mechanisms to preserve discipline, cohesion, and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” he said.

‎The DHQ clarified that the arraignment will proceed under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations, ensuring fairness and due process. This move comes in line with Nigeria’s long history of military involvement in politics, which makes allegations of coup plotting particularly sensitive.

‎8.‎Major M. Jiddah (Katsina, 56th Regular Course)

‎9.‎Major M. A. Usman (FCT, 60th Regular Course)

‎10.Major D. Yusuf (Gombe, 59th Regular Course)

‎‎Most of the indicted officers belong to the Infantry Corps, Signals Corps, and Ordnance Corps, according to sources.
